As a conscious Singaporean, I hope that you managed to catch PM Lee's National Day Rally speech last night.
If you did not, you can either watch the video or read the text of the speech.
This will benefit you in answering AQ and the initiatives mentioned will affect you and your family. Hence, please spend some time discussing the speech with your peers or family members. Feel free to tag your comments and views on the message board.
Some of the key points mentioned are:
1) Closing the income gap: More lower income families will also be eligible for the Additional CPF Housing Grant scheme which was introduced last year. The grant will be increased from S$20,000 to S$30,000, and it will give needy families a leg up to buy their first subsidised flat.

A Regional Studies Programme will also be introduced, where students will do Malay as a third language, and learn about our Southeast Asian neighbours.
100 scholarships will be offered for this programme a year.
3) Ageing population- living active lives
4) Working longer - more savings for old age: a law by 2012 that requires employers to hire workers beyond the age of 62.
